A little about me:
Welcome prospective students and parents/guardians of students. I was a competitive swimmer from 1988 through 2002. From the years of 2001-2005, I coached my summer swim team, and I also had the privilege of coaching a high school team in 2014, and a USA Age Group in 2017. Swimming has always been a passion of mine! One of my greatest privileges in life is being given the opportunity to pass that passion and joy onto others. Our earth is covered in water, so aside from enjoying the fun aspect of swim, I also believe it is a life skill that will make all of us safer. I like to balance fun with work – or hide work in fun. Since swimming is extremely physical, conditioning plays a big part of meeting your goals. I enjoy helping others find the ability to combine work with play for the benefit of learning a new skill.
Beginner students have so much potential, and it is my goal to help provide positive experiences to ensure beginners develop a desire to explore. Though I have a heavy competitive background, I do believe survival skills outweigh “looking pretty” while you swim. My swim lessons are designed to provide survival skills through advanced technique, or whatever is desired by the student. Not only do I love teaching young swimmers, but I also love swimming with adults. My lessons can be tailored not only to the beginner adult, but to those looking to work on conditioning, water exercise, or even water yoga!
Motivation is something that differs on individuals. I aim to identify what motivates each student. Motivation can range from things such as pride in personal accomplishments, rewards with play time or praise, or even pointing out an ability to get creative or gain in what areas of recreational pools might be available to your use. It is especially important that I speak with parents of younger students to understand any goals that the family is working towards. I will always share with my student’s parents the rational and benefit of various methods that will aid in the progress of younger swimmers.
I have held both American Red Cross and YMCA swim instructor trainings, as well as being ASCA Level 1 certified. Currently, I am Lifeguard, CPR, and First Aid trained. I look forward to meeting you in the water.
