All About Polar Plunge 2020
…and why you should join me this time.
So. Last January. I decided to do something a little crazy and very silly. I decided to jump in the 42 degree ocean water wearing only my swim trunks and a t-shirt. It was cold. Really, really, cold. It was also really, really worth it. Why? Two reasons. First, this was a charity event. My generous patrons and I raised over $500 for the Special Olympics. Second, it was just fun. Really! There were lots of really cool people there to talk to. The parking lot was one huge party. Many people were in costume. It was a great time all around. This January, not only do I plan on doing it again, I would like to try and convince as many of you as possible to join me. That being said here are the who, what, when, where, why, and how of the 2020 Wildwood Polar Plunge.
Who: The event is run by the Special Olympics. They are a charity dedicated to helping kids with disabilities participate in many different sports. Also, all of the participants. Its open to all ages, I saw plenty of parents carrying their kids down to the water. Many only put a toe in the water. That’s totally OK! It’s all about having fun! I will certainly be there and I hope to see many of you there too!
What: It is a charity event. Each participant is responsible for raising a minimum of $100. On the day of the event, everyone lines up on the beach, and when the time comes we sprint into the water. Then sprint right back out again! After changing and warming up everyone relaxes with some warm beverages and lunch.
When: The Wildwood Polar plunge is on 01/11/2020! If you can’t make that one, there are two other polar plunges. The Thanks4Giving Plunge on 11/16/2019 and the Seaside Heights Polar Plunge on 02/22/202.
Where: That’s easy. The Wildwood Polar Plunge is at the Wildwoods COnvention Center. 4501 Boardwalk Wildwood, NJ 08260
Why: Ahh, the most important question. Obviously it’s for a good cause but even more importantly it’s just fun. Its well organized, lots of good people, and good times all around. Please watch the video I made last year to see what I am talking about: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_IFrJiQgb0U&t=26s
How: You can register at https://www.plungewildwood.org/ and follow the instructions on that page.
Well… I hope I have at least convinced you to think about it. I can’t stress enough how much fun I had last time. Anyways, swim safe and I hope to see you there in January!
