A little about me:
I started my competitive swimming and diving career at the age of 8 at my local community summer pool. My community swim team coach suggested I consider moving from Wisconsin to California to train for the Olympics, but I declined. Since my high school did not have a pool, I swam at my local YWCA/YMCA where I became the state champion in the 100-yard butterfly and relay. The relay set a state record. I continued my swimming career in college for 4 years where I earned All-American status and swam sprints in butterfly and freestyle events. I graduated from the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse with a BS in Physical Education and a concentration in coaching. My passion for sports led me to pursue a teaching degree. I have coached age group swimming and diving teams along with high school and club teams. I absolutely love teaching children and adults a skill that they can enjoy for a lifetime.

I am patient, creative, encouraging, and caring, and I like to use a “hands on” teaching method, which means I am strict, disciplined, and fun all at the same time. I challenge my clients by racing them and trying a variety of methods. When I meet clients for the first time, I ask why they are taking lessons. If they say they are looking for technique, I always suggest they learn safety skills…treading, dog paddle, back and prone floats, turn over, and breath control…first, explaining that they never know when they may need these skills. Teaching survival strokes benefits beginners because it is the basics, which can be built on. I break the skills down into smaller steps and then put it together. You usually crawl before you walk and walk before you run. Learning the smallest skill builds confidence and self-esteem.

I am certified in American Red Cross CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer, First Aid, and Lifeguarding; and am a USA Swimming ASCA Level 2 coach. I specialize in advanced techniques for more advanced levels; and have also attended a “Fitter and Faster” clinic with 2 Olympians as I am always trying to learn new things.
