A little about me:
Hello families! I am very excited to be joining Making Waves and meeting you. I have always loved being in the water ever since I was a child. I have such a bubbly personality that I believe makes me a great fit helping people how to swim! I am also patient and always more than willing to help others.
I graduated with a degree in Early Childhood Education and taught in the classrooms for a while. However, after being in the classroom, I realized that I wanted to take a different path in teaching. I love to teach swim lessons because I want my students to understand the importance of safety and survival skills and to make my students feel comfortable in the water, regardless of their swim ability. I take my experience from the classroom and mirror that in my teaching in the pool, with a lot of modeling, support, and review. I also enjoy challenging my students and showing positivity to encourage that they feel motivation, excitement, and look forward to coming to class.
If you or your child is considered a beginner swimmer or is super afraid of stepping foot into the water, that I find no problem with! I introduce different survival skills as much as possible until my student is comfortable before being able to work on formal strokes. What I find most motivating for a young student to be comfortable in the water is coming up with games and fun tricks that they enjoy doing that connects and relates to them in a way. At the end of every lesson, I like to play a game, like a Scavenger Hunt, Red Light/Green Light, Marco Polo, etc. Through these fun games, some timid students forget they are in the water, which enhances comfort and progress in lessons. During instruction, I come up with fun alternatives to get them to do a task. For instance, if a child is being taught to roll over from front to back or vise versa, I say, ” Who wants to turned over like a hot dog or hamburger?” This not only motivates but attracts their attention.
I am currently First Aid/CPR and Lifeguard certified, and have not only taught swim lessons but worked at day camps before as well. I can’t wait to help your family love swim!
