A little about me:
The first time I took swim lessons, I cried the whole drive to the local YMCA. I thought I would hate it, but instead, the moment the class was over, I asked if I could return the next day. From that moment, a love of swimming was born that has stayed with me. It persisted throughout my childhood, rising through the various levels offered at the Y and later when I competed throughout middle and high school. Though I have since left my competitive swimming days behind me, I have learned to express my passion for swimming by teaching it to others. As someone who was initially terrified of learning to swim but also knows how vital of a life skill it is, I have an understanding and creative teaching style that aims to teach safety above all else but also adapts to each student’s comfort levels and interests. It is important to me to encourage development in a motivating and fun way. For students who already know the basics and want to improve on technical skills or move into competing, I am more than happy to work together to grow their swimming abilities to a more advanced level. I also love teaching adults to step into the water too!
Though I love working with older children and adults, I am also thrilled to work with beginners. Learning basic safety skills is crucial for those just developing their swimming abilities, and therefore safety is a significant part of my teaching method. Still, beyond the safety aspects, and even in young children, I largely put the reigns of learning into the hands of the students who work with me. Each student will have unique experiences and goals, and I want to work with them to help them understand that reaching those goals is not just possible but probable. Having also had experience teaching special needs swimmers, I know the key to any swimmer’s successful swim approach is understanding their wants and needs and communicating with their parents to formulate cohesive session goals.
I am Lifeguard, CPR, AED, First Aid, and Oxygen Certified. Let’s have a great time swimming together!
