A little about me:
I have been swimming for my entire life! I started competitively swimming at my local YMCA swim team in 2007 and ended my swim career at my swim team graduation in 2017. During my time on the swim team, I received my lifeguard, CPR, and first aid certification. I am proficient in the four competitive swim strokes: butterfly, breaststroke, backstroke, and freestyle; although, butterfly and freestyle are my favorite. Previously, I was a swim coach and a swim instructor working with individuals of all ages and all skill levels from beginner to competitive techniques. As a swim instructor, I try to encourage my students to reach their best potential while being safe and having fun in the pool. I want to teach kids because I want to inspire young kids to love the water just as much as I do.

In teaching my lessons, I try for each lesson to be effective and fun working on the individual’s safety skills and then strokes. When teaching beginners, I first teach them how to be comfortable in the water. Then, I teach beginners survival techniques such as a back float. I feel survival techniques are very important to teach beginner swimmers, to ensure their safety in and around the pool. Furthermore, I always work closely with the parents and the swimmers to get the best results possible for the swimmer(s).

I start each student’s assessment by asking if the student is a beginner and what swimming experience the swim student may have. Using the Making Waves program design, I design my lesson to fit my student’s needs. I always make sure my lesson plans are ready and cover all levels of swimming for the swimmer. We review weekly, to keep certain skills fresh in mind. These skills can include but are not limited to: swimming for a long distance and then float on their back (to teach survival techniques), blowing bubbles, and breathing evenly while swimming.
