A little about me:
When I was a small child, open water was a scary and foreign concept to me. Without a public pool in town, I thought swimming was a skill I wouldn’t need to learn. This all changed in 2004 when my friends and I joined our local summer swim team. After learning the basics and moving on my own in the water, all that previous fear turned into a complete fascination. My personal swimming career would continue over 15 years through middle school, as a 4-year varsity letter winner in high school, and a member of an NCAA college swim team.
Starting in 2013, my high school swim team began a program where our team members would work with the coaches to teach swim lessons to young children in the surrounding area. Watching these children make individual improvements at their own pace really opened my eyes to what the sport is about. It’s not about beating the person next to you in a race, it’s about finding what you think your limits are, and growing past them. For the next 8 years, I would continue coaching both summer recreational leagues and winter seasons at the YMCA leading our team to back-to-back undefeated seasons. These opportunities have allowed me to work with over 400 swimmers across all ages. Working with that many swimmers has shown me that everyone learns at their own pace, and there is no single best path to learning how to swim.
My style of teaching is a highly personalized one. I still remember how afraid I was of the water as a child! For beginners who may feel the same way I did, we start with feeling comfortable around the water first before moving on to basic survival skills. I strive to make each lesson an enjoyable experience. The best lessons are taught when the student is having fun, so I try to do anything I can on an individual level to make each lesson as fun as possible.
I am currently a certified lifeguard as well as certified in AED, CPR, and first aid certified. I look forward to helping you on your learn-to-swim journey!
