A little about me:
My love of swimming began on the beaches of Brazil and continued to flourish here in the United States. I spent my summers in the water, often with my little brother and cousins who helped nurture my desire to teach. After taking many years of swim lessons I was involved with a competitive swim team at my high school. This led me to want to become certified and I started teaching in 2011 at the local YWCA. I took a break when I left for school at the University of Maryland but continued to swim for leisure. I am very excited to be back in the pool and teaching again! I am a kind and energetic teacher and my hopes are to help people overcome the fear of water while being safe. As a teacher I strive to keep students excited about the water while we patiently work on their individual needs as a swimmer together.

Everyone starts somewhere and there is no need to be hesitant of being a beginner. Although being a great swimmer is something to look forward to, water safety is the priority. Even the best swimmers have once started by learning survival strokes. I try to motivate children by getting them excited about their progress. Every student is unique and I am happy to work with students of all abilities and ages including those with special needs. I enjoy when parents are a part of the learning process and I am always available to communicate with parents about their expectations.

I first got certified in 2010 and as all other instructors I currently hold a lifeguard/CPR/AED/First aid certification. I look forward to fun times in the pool!
