A little about me:
Swimming has always been a passion of mine, but it wasn’t until I retired as a ballet dancer that I found a job teaching private swim lessons at a local swim school. I’ve been swimming since I was about 4 recreationally and grew up next to the beach, so a lot of my recreational swimming took place there!

I would say that I have an extremely caring and sincere personality. Above everything else, I always try to be the kindest and most compassionate person I can be. While I was learning how to swim, I had a lot of friends that struggled to safely get from one side of the pool to the next, or who relied on floaties. It is because of these memories that teaching swimming became so important to me. The safer you can be, the more fun you can have! Personally, I have a very fun and playful teaching style. I believe that the more fun students have, the more they will want to keep coming back and learning more. Additionally, listening to the student’s needs is also an important aspect of my lessons. I always want them to feel comfortable and safe.

The most important thing for beginners to know when they come to my lessons is that we will focus on getting them as comfortable as possible. Regardless of age, we can work through first-time nerves, and my swimmers know that I’m here to help them. In the past, most of my students have been beginners, and with my patience and compassion, they have quickly and safely learned the important basics to feel confident. It’s important that before students learn the advanced strokes, they learn how to roll onto their back where they can catch their breath, how to float, and how to not only push away from the wall but also to make it back and grab onto the wall for safety. I like to motivate children through encouraging words and giving them something to look forward to, like swim related games at the end of a lesson. Usually, I use toys and rings, carrying them from one side of the pool to the other. In the end, I also like to do fun activities, such as getting to touch the bottom, blowing bubbles, or little jumps. I’ve taught special needs students in the past, and the most important part is finding the most effective way of teaching for that student, that works for them. To meet parents’ goals, I take into account what they’re looking for their swimmers to accomplish, and build my lesson plans accordingly.

Currently, I am certified in adult, child, and infant CPR/AED and lifeguarding. Let’s get swimming!
