A little about me:
My name is Laney, and I have loved swimming since I was 8! I originally started off with recreational lessons but was quickly encouraged to join club swim. I swam competitively all four years of high school and was captain my senior year. Swim has always been a sport I have truly loved! I knew I wanted to work in aquatics since swimming was and continues to be so important to me.
I consider myself to be very kind, empathetic, and understanding. I’m the oldest sibling so I like to think I’m quite responsible and patient. Teaching swim is rewarding not only because swim is something I love to do myself, but because I get to build relationships with my swimmers and help them learn to swim. I am instructor who demonstrates the skills I am aiming for my students to practice, and I really enjoy having fun in the water while still ensuring all my students are learning. Building strong relationships with my swimmers ensures that they not only have fun but build their confidence in each lesson we have.
My favorite student to teach is the beginner! I enjoy teaching beginners because it is their first introduction to swimming and I love to make that experience as enjoyable as possible so that they are eager to learn more. I believe survival strokes are critical because these strokes are important in both rescue and survival situations. This applies not only for beginners but even the more advanced students as well! Having a sense of how to survive in the water without using energy consuming strokes is very important because even the best athletes run out of energy. These skills are important and should be learned before teaching the logistics and techniques of swimming. I like to motivate students, especially young swimmers, by having fun in the water. I have experience teaching special needs, and have conducted swim lessons for students who are on the spectrum. I meet parents’ goals by speaking to them after classes or acting upon their questions and feedback that they may have during lessons. I am always open minded to suggestions on how my lessons can best be tailored to the way their swimmer learns.
I currently hold a certification in First Aid/CPR and Lifeguarding as well. I am excited to meet you and your swimmer!
