A little about me:

Hello all and welcome! My experience instructing swim began at the age of 15, when I was hired by my local YMCA as a swim instructor and lifeguard. During my time there, I taught swimmers of all ages and skill levels how to swim and be safe around water. I also was a coach with the swim team, where I was put in charge of the youngest age group of swimmers. I enjoyed chasing them up and down the lanes! Along with my experience as a swim instructor, I grew up competitively swimming, and I was our teams designated butterflyer. Along with swim instructing, I am studying at Stockton University, where I am majoring in marine sciences with a focus in biology; let’s just say I really enjoy the water!

Swimming is such an important skill to learn in life, and I feel like everyone should learn as soon as possible! Beginner swimmers have so much potential, and I take pleasure in teaching them the necessary lifesaving skills so they may enjoy the water safely. As a swim instructor, my goal is to teach skills while also ensuring that my lessons are fun and enjoyable. I often use toys and play games in my lessons to reinforce the skills being taught. I also understand that swimming can be scary for some, and for those who are scared, I am patient and take things at my student’s pace to ensure they are comfortable. This could include exercises such as letting the student hold on to me as we walk around the pool to get used to the water. What is most important to me is making sure that my students learn as much as possible while also going at the pace they are comfortable with to make their lessons a success!

Along with developing a relationship with my students, I also ensure that the parents’ needs for their children are addressed. I take time to update the parent on what their swimmer is learning, what needs to be worked on, and what the parent can do to help the student practice their skills outside of the lessons.

I am currently certified through the American Red Cross as a lifeguard, to perform CPR and first aid, and to administer emergency oxygen. I look forward to swimming with you!
