A little about me:
I have been swimming for at least 10 years. I swam competitively during my school-age years and started teaching swim lessons in college. I have been teaching swimming for approximately four years, with experience teaching babies, students with special needs, and adults. I have a bubbly personality. I am always ready to have fun while keeping pool safety in mind. I teach swimming because it is a life-saving skill. Being able to contribute to someone learning to swim is just so rewarding. My teaching focuses on survival and safety before progressing to more advanced forms of swimming.

I love teaching beginners because you can see the most progress from beginning to end. Being able to swim formal strokes is most people’s goal when learning to swim. Focusing on survival skills first allows the student to be more confident in emergencies. Teaching survival skills is very important to me to ensure my students know what to do in water emergencies. Motivating children is something that is unique to everyone. Usually, toys or playtime work, but communication with the family will also give me some insight into their child. I do teach children with special needs. In fact, I am a kindergarten special education teacher in my full-time job. Collaborating with parents to make realistic goals is key to successful swim lessons. I start with survival, then we can create more difficult goals related to formal strokes.

I currently hold a lifeguard certification and have been to swim-related trainings and am experienced in various swim curricula.
