A little about me:
Hi! I’m Julie, and I’ve been swimming since I was in elementary school. My competitive swim journey started in 2017, and since then, I’ve been on three swim teams, including my hometown’s summer team, a competitive winter team, and most importantly, my high school swim team, where I grew the most as a swimmer. I’ve helped teach younger swimmers at my club practices, which taught me that learning doesn’t stop when you master a skill, it continues by sharing that knowledge. The pool is such an amazing part of my life and I believe everyone should have the capability to stay safe in and around water.

My goal as a teacher is to make my swimmers as excited and passionate about the water as I am. As a person I am social, communicative, and bubbly, and I bring that energy to my lessons. I focus on positive reinforcement, patience, and kindness, because I know that’s how people learn best. I like to ensure my swimmers master a specific skill we’re working on before introducing new skills!

For beginners, I’m excited to show how fun and empowering swimming can be! I believe in moving at each swimmer’s pace to ensure the pool feels like a safe, enjoyable space. At Making Waves, we prioritize survival skills first, because mastering these skills helps swimmers learn new techniques with confidence and safety. I also incorporate games into lessons to keep things fun and always make sure to praise my students for their progress.

To make sure I’m meeting parents’/swimmer’s goals, I always start by asking what you hope you or your child will achieve from swim lessons, and I also encourage swimmers to share their goals so I can tailor my approach and track progress. Lastly, to show my experience, I hold my lifeguard certification and my Lifeguard Instructor license. I’ve taught lifeguards how to save lives and maintain pool safety.

Thanks for reading, and I look forward to swimming with you!
