A little about me:
Hi, nice to meet you! My name is Kyra, and I’ve been a water bug for as long as I can remember. Playing mermaids with my family and friends, every summer sparked my love for swimming (and yes, I truly believed I was a secret mermaid). I swam competitively during my high school years, which led me to become a lifeguard—a role I’ve proudly held for about five years. While lifeguarding has always been fun, I wanted to do more than just watch summer guests enjoy the water. Because I love working with kids, I decided to start teaching swim lessons, and since my very first lesson, I’ve never looked back. Having almost drowned myself, I understand firsthand how important it is for people of all ages and abilities to know how to swim.
Communication is key when learning something new and potentially scary, and I make sure my students always feel heard and supported. My bright, bubbly personality helps me connect easily with children and adults of all ages, skill levels, and especially individuals with special abilities. I understand that everyone learns differently, and I have a strong ability to break skills down into their most basic steps. I always teach water safety first, focusing on survival floats and strokes to ensure students can stay safe in any situation while building a strong foundation for all swimming techniques.
My teaching style is structured, gentle, and fun. I am creative when it comes to making lessons enjoyable, and I never force a student to attempt a skill they are not ready for, as trust is essential. I work closely with parents and guardians, always asking permission before pushing a child beyond their comfort zone. I use positive reinforcement and follow through on rewards to build confidence and motivation. Goals are reviewed regularly with families so we can work together for each child’s success.
I am lifeguard, CPR, and AED certified, and I complete recertifications annually. It would be an absolute joy to get to know you and your child—no matter the age, ability, or skill level—and to teach them not only how to swim, but how to be safe and have fun in the water. I can’t wait to meet you!
