A little about me:
Being from Southern California, swimming has been a constant in my life since 2005 and I have enjoyed swimming every step of the way. From the earliest of my competitive days in 2011, I frequented championship meets in both club and varsity high school swim environments. Now that I’m considered a “retired club swimmer,” I continue to swim on my own time for exercise and I’m excited to translate my passion for swimming into great lessons. Outside of the pool, I remain stimulated through outdoor activities such as hiking, as well as keeping it cozy indoors while baking. I can proudly say I’m an adaptable, hard-working individual who also takes pride in remaining personable. Most importantly, I make sure I’m always compassionate and empathetic towards others. I believe that maintaining a healthy and safe atmosphere is so important while beginning your swim experience. My goal is to make these starting moments as memorable and enjoyable as possible while still teaching the tools to succeed on your own in the water. I have a very playful and laughable teaching style that helps make what can be a stressful atmosphere calmer and more enjoyable. My students can thrive in a reassuring and supportive space with the use of toys, games, and drills in a fun yet beneficial manner.
Working with beginners is an amazing opportunity to build fun memories and safe practices during the early stages of swimming. I personally enjoyed all the pre-competitive coaches I had in my past and appreciated the fun environments in which I started. I’m also experienced in teaching adults in addition to swimmers with special needs. Furthermore, I hope to teach swimmer of all ages and capabilities since I do have a strong background in teaching the basics along with advanced swimming skills. Knowing the safety procedures to follow while being in the water of any kind is crucial which is how I got my start to swimming too! Since I had this prior knowledge before joining a team, I encourage the teaching and mastering of survival skills before moving onto the traditional strokes of swimming. Learning floating and breathing is a top priority while also recognizing wall and stair locations. My patience and playful approach help my swimmers know that the water can be a safe as well as a fun place to be. I motivate my younger swimmers through positive reinforcement along with a short playtime at the end of the lesson as an incentive. Listening to my student’s needs is my top priority since everyone is different and requires personalized techniques for growth. Parents’ goals remain important to me as well, which is why I take into consideration their expectations and proceed suitably.
I’m currently Lifeguard, CPR, AED, and First Aid certified. My past in swimming is highlighted by multiple records held at my high school for the varsity team as well as going to several CIF state swim championships and Sectionals. I’m beyond excited to take on this swimming journey together!
