A little about me:

Hello, my name is Mekhi! I first began swimming when I was 4 years old and have always found my way to the water. I consider myself an easy-going guy who is very calm, collected, and disciplined. While I always take water safety seriously, I try to be funny, because I have realized that bringing humor into my lesson helps to relax my students and keeps them distracted from any fears they may have. I enjoy teaching swimming because not only do I find it fun and exciting, but I like to teach people new things or help improve current skills. My teaching style is to first observe, then explain and correct any discrepancies I find. Once I find you or your swimmer ready to move on to something new, I always demonstrate first. Then, it will be your swimmer’s turn to show me the new skill, and we continue to fine-tune.

When I teach beginners, I try to stay above the water and focus on floating before we move onto other skills. Water safety is so important! After that, I focus on how to kick the water and how to properly move your arms. Then, I focus on what’s called a “streamline”, where my student will push off the wall while staying afloat, and soon we will implement kicking. I teach in this order because it’s crucial to implement the basic survival skills in swimming. Now, onto motivation! I usually introduce play into lessons with my younger swimmers using ducks and other toys and activities in the pool. Then, when I start teaching the lesson, everything feels fun! Finally, to meet a parent’s goal in lessons, I simply focus on the very first goal – getting their child comfortable in the water and staying afloat! Once I get that goal mastered, I have full confidence in teaching their swimmer proper swim techniques.

I currently hold my Lifeguarding, CPR, and First Aid certification. I have been through related training courses from the Army. Overall, that is all about me! I can’t wait to learn all about your swimmer, and I hope to see you in the pool!
