A little about me:
Growing up, the pool had always been my second home. I began taking swim lessons when I was 4 years old, and after developing my swim skills, I joined a competitive club swim team. I swam on the club team for 6 years, and I also swam for my high school team for all four years and was captain of the swim team.
I’m a bubbly gal who loves working with individuals to help them improve their swimming abilities. I teach swimming because it’s very important for people to feel comfortable in the water to prevent emergencies, but also because growing up as a swimmer has benefitted my health and mental growth. If I work with you or your child, I will place emphasis on having the swimmer be comfortable in the water, and then move on to technical work. What is most important to me is that my swimmer is learning skills while having fun to make their experience as positive as it can be!
When teaching beginners, it is important to me that they can be comfortable in the water on their own before moving on to learning other skills. If I could teach my swimmer only one thing, it would be survival skills. You never know when your child may fall into the water or be on their own in the water. If this were to ever happen, I would want them to feel calm and collected and be able to get themselves back to land safely. Once your child has mastered the survival skills, then we can move on to learning the formal strokes. I motivate my students by encouraging them to try skills that are new to them and give positive feedback with helpful suggestions to improve their skills. I can work with beginners new to the water, and those with more experience who want to sharpen their swimming skills. In order to fulfill the swimmer’s needs, I would love to chat with parents to discuss what they would like their child to get out of their lessons, as well as any concerns they may have.
I currently hold a certification for the American Red Cross Lifeguarding with CPR/AED and First Aid use. I hope to be swimming with you soon!
